How Your Oral Health Affects Your Overall Wellness

How Your Oral Health Affects Your Overall WellnessDid you know that not only the beauty of a smile, but also your well-being depends on the health of your teeth and gums?

Today, a beautiful smile and white teeth are associated with the image of a person who knows firsthand what success and high social status are. And dental health is directly related to the health of the whole organism.

At the beginning of communication, we always pay attention to the state of the interlocutor’s teeth, and the first impression very much depends on the smile. And how important is a beautiful smile when building a personal life – this is already a truism.

Nothing has changed in our day. Teeth are still associated with the entire body and serve as a kind of barometer of human health. And improper care of teeth, in turn, can provoke the development of a multitude of ailments, which only at first glance do not belong to the oral cavity.

Diseases of the oral cavity can cause serious diseases of the body and affect the overall immunity and vitality of a person. Below – only a part of the diseases, one of the reasons for which can be inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity.

Cardiovascular diseases
Scientists have proved that sore teeth and gums can become the “starting point” for the development of coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction and stroke. In individuals with inflammatory periodontal diseases, the risk of heart failure is doubled!

Bacteria from the periodontium penetrate the bloodstream, which causes inflammation of the vascular walls and can cause the formation of blood clots. And blood clots, as is known, can block the lumen of blood vessels and cause the development of cardiovascular diseases.

Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
Problem teeth are not able to provide the correct mechanical grinding of food, preparing it for digestion in the gastrointestinal tract. If you have sore teeth, gums and there is no possibility to chew food thoroughly, then an additional load is placed on the stomach, which can lead to all sorts of diseases.

The common mechanisms of development of both periodontitis and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract is the presence of microorganisms that can cause inflammatory and immune reactions. Chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, pancreatitis – only part of the diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, which can be caused by diseases of the oral cavity.

Diabetes
Most scientists confirm that in case of inflammatory periodontal diseases, the blood sugar level rises. A number of modern studies have found that successful treatment of periodontitis in patients with diabetes over time was accompanied by normalization of blood sugar levels. In order to normalize their condition, diabetic patients should not only follow the recommendations for the treatment of the underlying disease, but also, if necessary, undergo periodontal treatment at a dentist.

Pregnancy
Hormonal changes in the body of a pregnant woman can provoke inflammation and bleeding gums. Infections that live in the teeth of a pregnant woman can have an adverse effect on the fetus and cause miscarriage of pregnancy. Periodontal disease increases the risk of preterm birth by 7 times!

Man’s health
Lack of proper dental care can lead a man not only to a sharp decrease in the number of female fans due to an ugly smile and bad breath, but also to the appearance of a typical “male” problem – impotence. Chronic infection in the mouth damages blood vessels, which can cause sexual weakness.

Rules for the care of teeth
Since the state of the whole organism depends on the health of the teeth, it is very important to prevent the development of ailments that can significantly impair our quality of life with proper dental care and the entire oral cavity. To avoid diseases of the oral cavity and, as a result, diseases of other organs, it is necessary not to forget about the daily prevention:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
  • Choose high-quality toothpaste: for the prevention of caries, toothpaste should contain fluoride compounds, and for the treatment and prevention of gum diseases – anti-inflammatory substances.
  • Additional use of the rinse after brushing your teeth helps remove bacteria from hard-to-reach places, cheek surfaces and tongue and keep breath fresh for longer.
  • Regularly visit the dentist for professional teeth cleaning and examination of the oral cavity.
  • Daily use dental floss to remove plaque from the inter dental spaces and along the gum line.
