Natural Mouthwashes for Bad Breath

Bad breath – or halitosis – is a serious threat to your social life. Use natural mouthwashes to get rid of this problem.

There are many reasons for this problem. One of them is poor oral hygiene. If you do not brush your teeth well and do not use dental floss, small remnants of food get stuck between your teeth and disintegrate, creating an unpleasant odor.

Causes of odor

In most cases, bad breath is caused by bacteria in the mouth. They can be on the tongue if it is not cleaned well, or in case of dehydration when the mouth is dry. Some medications also reduce the natural production of saliva.

3 types of natural mouthwashes to get rid of bad breath

1. Mint-anise-rosemary mouthwash

Everyone knows mint because of its use in recipes, but it is also used as a remedy for oral hygiene. This plant not only gives fresh breath but also has health benefits.

Rosemary is widely used in medicine, as well as in cooking, cosmetics, and hygiene.

Anise has antibacterial properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria in the mouth. These microorganisms are responsible for many of the problems associated with bad breath.


  • mint leaves (10 g);
  • 3 glasses of water (750 ml);
  • 1 tbsp anise seeds (12 g);
  • rosemary leaves (10 g).


  1. First, add three cups of water to the pan and cook over medium heat.
  2. Add mint leaves and rosemary along with anise seeds.
  3. When the liquid boils, turn off the heat and leave to infuse for seven minutes.
  4. Then pour into a glass jar for storage.

After brushing your teeth, rinse your mouth with this mouthwash.

2. Parsley-cloves mouthwash

Parsley is enriched with vitamins A and C, calcium, iron. The high content of chlorophyll (which gives a green color) makes parsley an excellent remedy for removing toxins, improving digestion, cleansing the colon, neutralizing bad odors.

Clove has antibacterial properties. The eugenol extract contained in cloves is an excellent anesthetic, so it is used in dental offices to reduce pain during procedures.


  • 3 glasses of water (750 ml)
  • 2 bunches of parsley:
  • 1 tbsp of cloves.


  1. Pour water into a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Wash the parsley and add it to the water, along with the cloves.
  3. When the liquid boils, turn off the heat.
  4. Then strain and pour into a jar.

Use as a mouthwash after brushing your teeth.

3. Tea with cinnamon and eucalyptus from bad breath

Cinnamon has antibacterial properties that prevent bacteria from multiplying in the mouth. Remember that cinnamon also has about 50 aromatic properties, mainly due to its high terpene content.

Eucalyptus contains antibacterial components that remove residues between the teeth, which cause bad breath.


  • 5 cinnamon sticks;
  • 3 glasses of water (750 ml);
  • 1 tbsp eucalyptus leaves.


  1. Heat water and add cinnamon and eucalyptus.
  2. When it boils, turn off the heat.
  3. Strain the liquid and pour it into a jar.

Use as a rinse after brushing your teeth.
